Suspended Reddit Account

Promoting your content on Reddit comes with an inherent risk of an account suspension. This risk can be substantially mitigated by following the guidelines for posting to Reddit.

However, even with best efforts, suspensions sometimes still occur because they’re processed automatically by content and spam filters. (Reddit administrators can also suspend your account manually, but this is much less common.)

This guide explains how to determine if your account is suspended, the reasons why Reddit suspends accounts, and how to get your account back.

Is my account suspended?

Sometimes Reddit will alert you that your account has been suspended, and sometimes the suspension is a shadowban.

If you’ve been shadowbanned, your posts, comments, and profile look normal when you’re logged in to Reddit.com. However, no other users can see your posts, comments, and your user profile.

To manually verify that your account has been suspended, you can either:

  1. Log out of your Reddit account, then visit your user page.
    • If your account is suspended, you’ll see a message like “Sorry, nobody on Reddit goes by that name” or “This account is suspended”.
    • If you see either of these messages and have not been notified that your account was suspended, your account was shadowbanned.
  2. While logged in, visit the suspension appeal page.
    • If the page allows you to submit an appeal, your account is suspended.
    • You will see this option for all types of suspensions.

Why was my account suspended?

Here are some common reasons for getting suspended:

  • Your content violates the Reddit Content Policy
  • Your account is too new or lacks the reputation to post as frequently as you’re posting
  • You’re posting the same content too often
  • Your content resembles spam or is spam
  • Your content was marked as a false positive for spam

How do I restore my account?

If your Reddit account is suspended, you can appeal the suspension to restore your account. Appeals are usually processed within a few days.

When your suspension is lifted, ensure that your new posts follow the guidelines for posting to Reddit to reduce the chances of being suspended again. You may need to take some time to build your account’s reputation manually before continuing to post.
